Recycled Magazine Box

Recently I've taken an interest in learning about recycleable items and incorporating them into artwork. For example, I'm currently attempting to work with plastic bottle caps, collecting them to create a larger piece. I have a huge collection that I started in order to donate to "Caps for Chemo," until I heard it was a hoax. So now I have a few bags under my bed filled with these caps that I will be adding to in order to create a project inspired by Christine Destrempes's "13,699, shown below.

That won't be for a while though, but hopefully it will incorporate Christmas lights as well. I guess now would be the best time to get those on sale at the Dollar Store.. if only it would stop snowing!

But anyway, yesterday my best friend and I went shopping and I bought a box from Earthbound made from recycled magazines. It is so cool! On the inside is a recycled movie poster from Juno, which makes it about a thousand times better. So today since I am stuck in the house watching the snow fall, I am going to try and make one similar to the one that I bought, considering it was $25 in the store and I have at least a bajillion magazines somewhere in my basement that I could make one from.

Check out this page from How to Make and Do for a tutorial on how to make bowls out of recycled magazines. They are really cool! Hopefully I can come up with my own instructions and photos next time!
